Penrith and the area
Situated adjacent to the beautiful ruins of Penrith castle, The Station Hotel is an ideal base to explore the many wonders of this beautiful area, with scenery so stunning it has to be seen to be believed.
Even if you’re not a hardened hill walker, you can’t fail but be impressed by the sheer beauty of the Lake District and Eden Valley.
Naturally, lovers of the great outdoors are well-catered for, but so are those who prefer more sedate pleasures like lake cruises and sightseeing. Our Penrith hotel is perfectly located for Lake Ullswater and Derwent Water, so if you’re looking to explore the Lake District by foot, bike, car or boat we are ideally situated.
The town has fantastic amenities including a wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. There is a cinema, leisure complex, climbing wall, 18 hole golf course and local market amongst other attractions. Penrith railway station is on the main West Coast line between London and Glasgow, which is also the main pickup and drop off for the bus companies, and is only 2 minutes walks from the Station Hotel.
Surrounding Penrith are a number of beautiful hamlets and villages each with their own charm and history – Greystoke, Kirkoswald, Great Salkeld, Lazonby, Askham to name but a few. The village of Langwathby is on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line.
Ullswater, the second largest lake is the Lake District, is approximately 5 miles from Penrith. The Ullswater Steamers sail from Pooley Bridge down to Glenridding via Howtown. The lake is excellent for watersports and the surrounding fells provide superb walks, mountain biking routes and rock climbing.
Penrith golf club is less than a mile away, a picturesque but challenging course with a reasonable green fee for non members.
There’s lots to see and lots to do around Penrith and The North Lakes.
